St Louis Day1

We visited the St Louis Arch this morning. We took the tram to the viewing area. One side looked over Illinois and the other side overlooked St. Louis. We had views of the State House and Stadiums. The viewing room is 630 feet high and in the center of the arch. Afterwards we walked through the museum the drove to the Anheuser-Busch brewery. We had lunch at "Big Daddy's", one of a dozen bars within a mile of the brewery. The tour was interesting. No photography was allowed in the brewery. Afterwards we went to the hospitality room and enjoyed two 8 oz glasses of beer. The tour and parking were free unlike the brewery tour in Dublin Ireland.

By Bye Branson

We left Branson yesterday with some wonderful memories. Since we were unable to get a rental car until Monday, we just strolled Branson Landing and Historic Branson. Did some shopping, got some ice cream and then took a shuttle to the Broadway Show-a great variety of songs and dance numbers from many known and not-so-know productions. It was terrific! Monday, free at last with a rental car, we did all the things that we needed a car for-the Butterfly House, the Winery, going to two stamping/scrapbook stores, a Sonic burger and shake, the local chocolate shop....home for dinner then out to an Elvis Experience! Tony Roi was fun in his white jump suit and gyrating hips-and did a good job with some of The Kings songs-both lesser and well known ones. Tuesday was spent driving from Branson to St. Louis (actually Eureka, MO). A wonderful friend, Rose Ingraham, came to the RV and went out to dinner with us. We're looking forward to seeing more of her and her husband Ray. Too bad THEY have to work for a living!

Branson

We left Memphis Friday morning and drove across the Ozark Mountains to Branson Missouri. The drive across the Ozark Mountains reminded me of the Blueridge Parkway in Virginia and North Carolina. Steep hills, sharp curves and beautiful scenery. We checked in about 5 pm, setup, relaxed, and ate dinner. After Dinner we walked to Branson Landing. Branson Landing is a shopping center with a Belk department store and Bass Pro as anchors. The attraction is a water fountain set to music. There are two film clips from our digital camera in the Photo Gallery.

From all the hype about Branson I assumed it was a large town with public transportation and rental cars. I was in shock when I called both Rental agencies this morning to find no cars available until Monday. Fortunately there are some shuttle services which will cost about the same as a rental if you plan correctly.

The Railway Station is walking distance from the MOtorHOme, we took a scenic railroad ride into Arkansas. It was a nice relaxing train ride into a part of the Ozarks that we had not seen. Tonight we took a shuttle to the Dixie Stampede Dinner Theater. We had a meal with too much food, good thing we have a refrigerator in the MOHO. It was an enjoyable show. Afterwards we walked around the area, then took the shuttle home. This area is very hilly, it doesn't take us flatlanders long to decide to head back to the MOHO for a Pabst.

Memphis-day 2

Another beautiful day! How lucky we are the weather cleared! We started with the shuttle to downtown Memphis and saw the Peabody Hotel ducks make their entrance-What a hoot! Complete with the duckmaster! From 11-5 the ducks live in the fountain in the hotel, from 5 PM-11 AM they live in the "duck palace".
After that we strolled Memphis and then took the monorail to Mud Island River Park-neat place with a great museum and a complete model of the Mississippi River that BJ and I walked down AND up! Then we hopped a trolley car back to the shuttle and home to the RV. Some relaxing a corn dog dinner with pecan pie at the Heartbreak Hotel watching a video of Elvis in concert.

Nashville to Memphis

One of the sites we wanted to see was closed Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Monday was spent running errands , doing laundry, and cleaning the motorhome. On Tuesday morning we drove the motorhome through downtown Nashville to our remaining site, The Parathenon. A replicia of the one in Ahtens Greece, Nashville's Parthenon was built in 1897 for Tennessee's Centennial celebration.

After visting the Parthenon we drove to Memphis. The Graceland RV Park is located (at the end of Lonely Street) behind the Graceland Exhibit Center and Heartbreak Hotel which is across the street from the mansion.

This morning we went on the Graceland tour. Everything is very elaborate. Elvis spared no expense. The tour does not include his personal space on the upper floor. The artifacts we are allowed to see are on the first floor, in the basement, and in the outer buildings. You see lots of furniture, clothes and Records. Parts of the tour take you through a museum containing his cars and motorcycles and another containing his two airplanes.

In the afternoon we took a shuttle bus downtown. We toured Sun Records, walked around town, listened to a rock/blues group performing in a Park, then walked to the Peabody Hotel and saw the famous ducks swimming in the fountain.

For dinner we went to Marlowe's Ribs and Resturant. Their shuttle is a Pink Cadillac Limo.

We've boondocked!

BJ & I have boondocked for the very first time! This is when you stay at a Wal-Mart SuperCenter parking lot-it's not very exciting, but when you have a destination in mind, it makes more sense to do that then to try to find a campsite that may be miles away.
We made it to Nashville, TN amidst the rain and thunderstorms. Friday night we went to a buffet dinner and show that was really fun and yesterday we toured the Gaylord Opryland Hotel-it was beautiful! Last night we went to the Grand Ole Opry and saw Vince Gill, The Oak Ridge Boys along with about 10 other acts. Today we did the Gray Line tour of Nashville with a concentration on the Ryman Auditorium and the Country Music Hall of Fame. The weather is cold and rainy and we can't wait for spring!
We've sprung a leak in the RV! It must be just tooooo much rain!
